Painter, Photographer, and Educator
Joan has always been involved with painting and photography and after formal studies; she began a teaching career that lasted for many years. She owned a retail business called Brushes in the 1980’s on Martha’s Vineyard, airbrushing original designs on clothing. Her style of painting is realistic with an emphasis on pattern and color, and her travels have opened up her photography to include informal portraits. She makes her second home in East Hampton and can often be seen walking her yellow lab Patsy, in the Springs Park.
She is currently Adjunct Professor at L.I.U. at C.W.Post (Visual & Performing Arts Department).
Her career also includes years as District Chairperson of Art & Technology, Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools, and as an art teacher at George W. Hewlett High School, specializing in Advanced Placement Studio Art, Drawing & Painting, Computer Graphics, Digital Photography, B/W Photography, Airbrush, 2-D Design, and Figure Drawing.
