ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Painting is a way for me to express something that lies beyond my vision. I once observed an old couple walking away from me across the plaza at Lincoln Center. Her ancient arm was curled into the crook of his elbow…his head was bent toward hers, his spine made straighter with a cane. They were one …moving together through time in space.

The forms themselves were powerful, but it was the space between them that held my attention. Since that day I have been intrigued and inspired by the space between the forms.

In my most recent landscapes, I am exploring forms in nature. I paint from my own photographs… leaf against sky, trees standing side by side, reaching upward… clouds silently blossoming in a vast blue….

I enjoy abstracting what the human eye can see in order to reveal essential qualities seen only by the human heart. It is my desire to share with my viewers a more personal encounter of heart & soul meeting life itself.

I hope my painting is a finger pointing toward a mystery … toward that which remains unseen …yet visible with the heart’s eye.

My art education comes from my own trials and explorations, and some have suggested that my lack of formal schooling has somehow set me free to explore expression without any rules and regulations to hinder me.

Through painting I try to share what my eyes reveal to my heart and soul. Moreover, by painting, I hope to connect with others. I paint because I must….I long for expression… for connection…for intimacy…. for life shared.
