I am interested in creating structures. Although my structures try to achieve permanence, solidity and invulnerability, they fail. My structures and all man’s structures fail when confronted with the powerful cosmic natural elements. What remains is a flawed, sometimes beautiful attempt at survival. My structures also have an emotional internal animus resulting from the attempt to withstand and survive time and the elements. Altered, aged, bent, broken, they still survive. Most of my pieces are made from moist, plastic, primordial …

I went on to earn a BFA in Illustration from Rhode Island School of Design. I was assistant art director for Clarion Books and worked with …

Gia Horton-Long Island landscape artist. I am a lifelong summer local resident living between the North Sea and New Hyde Park. I find the inspiration for my paintings from the peace and serenity of the remote places of the East End that I love so much. I spend the summer finding references through the lens of my camera while paddling through secluded areas on my kayak or taking walks along the shore and various marinas. As the Hamptons landscape changes, …
Artist’s Statement “My paintings are nature-based. To make them requires a lot of looking. I have always been attracted to the illusion of space on a two-dimensional surface. Beyond this, I am deeply attached to certain landscapes, and I try to capture something of their beauty and timelessness. I have spent countless hours becoming intimate with these places–absorbing their sights, sounds, smells and even their taste. Although based on visual experience, to a large extent my work is also dependent …

Linda Sirow is an East Hampton-based abstract artist, working predominantly with encaustic wax. Reflecting her love of color, process, and movement, her work allows her to wordlessly express innermost thoughts and infinite emotions. Originally drawn to sculpture, she later found that as a working mother of three living in Manhattan, she had neither the time nor the space necessary for the practice. She turned to painting, and once she discovered encaustics, she felt an immediate affinity for its character, depth, …

ARTISTS STATEMENT Inspired by Carl Andre’s practice of working with unmodified existing materials, I fabricate wall mounted and free standing wood sculptures with readily available maple blocks. I’ve been exploring the idea of intersection and tension created by interacting forms. I build the forms up with cubes. The repetition emphasizes the fabricated nature of the pieces. I paint the interior of the pieces, using complementary colors in gloss enamel. The opposing colors heighten the tension, emphasize the interior spaces, and …
